Staff were asked to have read Chapters 5 & 6 from Making Thinking Visible and to bring evidence of students' thinking (student samples from a thinking routine) to this professional development session. Staff was divided into small groups that were interdisciplinary. In small groups, one staff member volunteered his/her student samples in order to conduct the LAST Protocol. This protocol is non-threatening for staff because the conversation does not center around or evaluate the presenting teacher. Instead, the focus is on observing the thinking of the students. The presenting teacher has a limited amount of speaking time in the protocol so that he/she can focus on listening to his/her colleagues' discussion. Staff feedback about the protocol was very positive. We will do this again! ![]()
